Isolation—Ice—Illusion

Isolation—Ice—Illusion (2026) is a sculptural installation of beadwork frozen within a block of ice, illuminated by candlelight. Beadwork, belonging to many nations, is often a practice of cultural continuity, reciprocity, kinship & care. By physically isolating the beadwork, this piece embraces geographic isolation, yet uses colourful beads in a variety of textures to challenge settler-colonial stereotypes of Northern desolation.

This work was created on the traditional and contemporary territory of the Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in, and is installed on the frozen Chu Kon 'Dëk - Yukon River.
