Ongoing Square Archive
In this ongoing square archive, I am capturing moments in my life through beading stories onto 7.5' x 7.5' square pieces. So far, I have only beaded onto to stroud, but I can see the material changing as I feel it's necessary. I hope to continue this practice throughout my life, and weave the squares together once the project feels complete. There is currently no set end date to the project.

The spirits of knowing, 2024
I created this piece during my time at the Sointula Art Shed residency in January, 2024. Not knowing the specifics of this mysterious flower that found its way into my sketchbook at the beginning of the residency, I contemplated whether or not to use it as a beading pattern. I went ahead with it, following the intuitive feeling to bead the design. After completing the piece, an adventure with grief lead me to understand the subconscious message within the finished work — a visual metaphor for the complexities of life’s relationships, and the inevitability of growth and separation. So much beauty coexists with grief and sometimes, our creativity, in confluence with our subconsciouses, can give us insights that we have yet to fully understand. Seeing such moments in my life reflected in this piece months after it’s creation, The spirits of knowing embodies internal emotional expression, and questions the curiosity behind creating something that externalizes beauty, and how the push-pull of these internal and external relationships of our creative processes work to signal the onset of change. The foresight of this piece was excitingly mystifying and is a reminder that while we cannot choose when we have to grow — it is an inevitable shared connection we all have.

Snow moon, 2025
Snow Moon depicts the relation of the life of plants in the winter months, in symbiosis with ourselves during this time - sleeping and trepid, yet releasing emotional burdens in this season of hibernation, allowing for rest, clarity and renewal. This piece comes one year after a journey with grief, and the beautiful uncertainty that comes along with change.

Handle with care, 2025
This square is part of a larger piece created during my time as an artist in residence at the Kapishkum gathering at the Banff Centre for Arts + Creativity. Even though this square will likely not be included in the ongoing squaure archive project, it was initially created to be included but ended up taking a different path. I hope to create a relative to the piece that will honour the same story it caries, to be included in the archive. Read more about Handle with care here.
